Some Great Photos of Birds around West Bengal


In this post we will take a look at the various types of birds I have captured till now. Some of them are very interesting and we don't know their name yet! If you know the names please help me out here.

The cuckoo is very common in West Bengal and often heard to emit beautiful sound specially during Spring season and it signals the start of Spring Season. But due to increased pollution these birds are changing their trait and nowadays are often heard during summer and autumn season.

This is a small bird found near water bodies and it hunts small fishes and water creatures. I tried to find the name of the bird but couldn't. If you know the name of the bird please comment here.
So, this bird sits on the branches of the tree and waits for its prey and when it finds out a prey worth catching it starts flying low above water surface and finds a perfect timing to catch the prey and again waits on the branch.

Sweet Sound Making Beautiful Bird

This bird was captured on the trees in Botanical Garden. It makes a sweet sound and very distinguishable from other birds by its red patches on its face and tail. It has a small beak and it has a  pointy horn like part on its head. It eats small insects on tree branches.

The above picture was captured in Botanical Garden. We captured the photos of this bird in Princep ghat and also in Ravindra Sarovar.

Migratory Birds

The birds above are captured in Ravindra Sarovar. These birds feed on fishes in the lake. They appear dark like vultures and usually have long neck. They sometimes bath in lake water an swim finding for fish. If you visit the lake you will find these birds play in lake waters. Often the birds get injured while playing and are hunted down by kites which are found in abundance around lake trees.

The above photo was clicked in Botanical Garden and in an eco system consisting of these migratory  birds,egret and ducks. They hunt for insects and usually fly away on sensing disturbances.
These birds have coloured feathers comparable to the peacock and has a white streak on the head and long legs. these birds walk on water easily.

Spinning Bird

 This weird bird was captured in the Botanical garden and it usually roams above water sitting on logs and floating leaves. They have a yellow coloured face and thin legs. They fly fast spinning above the surface of water. If you know the name of the bird please comment.

A species of Heron

This is a migratory bird and found around empty fields and water feeding on centipedes, millipedes and insects. This bird was captured near Eden Gardens. This particular species can be found in entire West Bengal. I found this particular bird near Ghutiyari Sharif in South 24 Parganas near Howrah and in Medinipur.

This particular bird was captured near Behala and very common. It makes a sharp chirping sound and usually makes nest in Date trees.

This particular bird is very common in West Bengal and usually found everywhere and is commonly mistaken with crow  but this bird has an unusually long tail and makes a sweet soft chirping sound.

This particular bird is very common and usually hunts small preys like rat and makes nest in long trees. It is usually chased by crows and most often seen circling the sky above the place where it find its prey.
